I was only six when I was bitten by the performance bug. First grade, Covert Elementary Auditorium, watching the annual second grade musical. There was something about the ladybug and grasshopper that really got me excited! They were singing and dancing and everyone was just so happy!! That was all I needed. I began dancing at the age of seven at Vi Shafer School of the dance.

My first main stage theatrical production was Fences with the Kalamazoo Black Civic Theatre. Soon after, came community theatre where I performed in The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Wizard of Oz. Somewhere in all this chaos, I had the time to start taking voice lessons. I then returned to the Kalamazoo Black Theatre where I performed in Cinder-Ella and the Wiz. For the next couple of years, I decided to give theatre a break and focus on my voice lessons and dancing. I even began teaching for the newly formed after-school program, Covert Performing Arts Troupe.

After graduating from Covert High School in 1999 I decided to attend college at Howard University in Washington DC. Initially a dance major, I quickly transferred to the musical theatre department, where I was trained to do it all at the same time!! Singing, Dancing, Acting... What more could a girl ask for??   I soon began to star in the annual musicals and even try my hand at regional theatre. I was performing so much, that I decided to take time off from school to perform full-time. I also began to teach, and realized that I loved doing that just the same.

After a few years, I came to the conclusion that what  what I really wanted to do was finish my degree and go on to teach on a higher level.  After finishing my degree, I took a position as choreographer for a summer theatre program at a local college. I was eventually billed as Asst. Director/Choreographer. Impressed with my hard work and ability to lead, I was referred as a candidate for Director of a production in the fall semester. It, was a great experience having total creative control, and the production was successful. Now I am continuing to explore all avenues of this industry and I am always open to try something new. I continue to learn, evolve and push myself, through private coaching, workshops and classes throughout the city.
